It's
so unsusual to find yamadori Ponderosa pines with fat stumpy
trunks instead of the familiar literati types, so this piece
of material was irresistable. I bought it the minute I spotted
it at New England Bonsai Gardens in 2004. It actually has two
"fronts" but I prefer this one because it reveals the
contorted main branch.
The
needles will become short if fertilizer and water are kept to
a bare minimum, but this tree isn't quite ready for that yet
- it needs more buds. The needles were cut for the photograph.
